  I bought a used battery and installed it. After attempting software upgrades I took the car to Tesla. They said the battery was incompatible and offered to install a rebuilt one for $20K. I had not heard of this before as most forums and Tesla service documentation does not mention incompatibilities across the range of batteries from 60-85KWH.
