2004 Boxster S. 165k miles. New to me. I found some small, black, plastic pieces (smaller versions of the one in the picture) in my oil filter after a recent oil change, and when dumping the old oil I found a single ferrous metal shaving (no more than a few mm wide). I drained the fresh oil and dropped the oil pan to investigate further. The picture is what I found in the pan. The dust stuck to the magnet came from the drained oil. As per the title... what's it for? I'm not looking for 'guesses'... i want somebody, if there is anybody, to tell me FACTUALLY the reason for it..? I'm thinking about cutting it out, to get some more engine sound...
- Tiptronic P1818 and P1823 - 986 won't shift into any gears

Durometric pulled Tiptronic P1818 and P1823 codes after I was unable to shift into any gear on my Boxster. There has never been any issues whatsoever with the transmission. However, while parking my car the previous night, I accidently turned off the car while in Drive. - At the dash with engine started, the dash correctly displays proper gear to match the shift lever, but the car does not budge. - The mechanical linkage at the rear is all connected. - I checked fluid level and and some fluid did come out at the fill area but the fluid is very dark with NO burnt smell. - I reset the Tiptronic…
- if coolant leak is not from the expansion tank, then where else could it be from?

I have a 1998 Blue/Grey Boxster with 82,000 miles. The other day I got a low coolant warning, I topped it up (always keep coolant in the trunk), when I pulled back into the garage later, there was a puddle of coolant on the passenger side and at or just in front of the rear wheel well. I jacked it up to inspect from underneath and there was coolant along the rear fender-to-body pinch seam on that side, as well as a little on the rear suspension arm(s) and to the front near the underside valence cover below the thermostat-water pump. The water pump and thermostat were replaced 18ish months ago…
