The L88 was not built to be a comfortable Corvette with a bigger engine. Developed under Zora Arkus-Duntov, it was Chevrolet's competition-minded version of the 427: 12.5:1 compression, aluminum cylinder heads, an 850-cfm Holley carburetor, an aggressive solid-lifter cam and a requirement for 103-octane fuel.
